Secondary Service Project
Written by Zach Niles
President of Student Government
Student government attempts to plan three or four service projects each year including
one community outreach where students volunteer at local organizations.
Any suggestions for future service projects would be greatly
appreciated, and may be submitted to the school office.
Last Friday, March 23, secondary students spent the afternoon serving one church and two
charity organizations in the community. Eleven students went to the Habitat for Humanity
Restore, where they sorted, cleaned and organized merchandise and stocked shelves. Another
group of eight students sorted through donations at Goodwill, preparing them for sale. The final
eight students volunteered at Temple Hill Baptist Church, cleaning parts of the sanctuary, the
woodwork and the windows. Altogether, the afternoon was a great success and a
wonderful opportunity to service the local community. Each facility was grateful
for the extra help and kept the students busy.

Handbook Corner: Student Government
We will begin to feature areas of the student handbook in the Town Crier as space allows.
This week we will focus on Student Government.
(see page 42)
Student government is comprised of five officers (chaplain, president, vice president, secretary,
and treasurer) and one representative from each of the secondary classes. The
chaplain, president and vice president must come from the junior/senior class.
All student activities and fund-raisers are coordinated through student government with
the approval of the administrator.
Hoops & Loops 2012 Results
Historically, our Hoops and Loops event has brought in between $6,000.00-$8,000.00.
Last year, we were in the middle of a matching challenge during Hoops and Loops and our benefactor agreed to
allow us to count Hoops and Loops funds toward the match. That seemed to be a great incentive to our
donors and we brought in a record $12,3000.00!
This year, even without the added incentive of a matching challenge, our donors stepped up and we have over
$12,7000.00 in pledges! Praise God!
Thank you to our students who did the asking, to our donors who did the giving, to our parents who do the supporting
and to our God who provides for our needs, “exceedingly, abundantly”!
We also would like to take this opportunity to comment on the wonderful attitude of teamwork and partnership that we
observed at the gym that day. The secondary students went over to shoot/walk early so they could be finished by the
time the elementary students arrived. Our secondary students then joined in to help with the youngest students in a
variety of ways. Some helped keep count of laps while others walked alongside for encouragement. Still others helped
with the little ones to be sure they were where they needed to be and going in the right direction.
We were also grateful for the help at the registration table-that can be a hectic area but it all went very
smoothly due to the helpful attitude of everyone involved.
Remember
TOMORROW is the deadline to qualify for individual and classroom prizes. Winners will be
determined by the total of donations turned in by the end of the school day.
All funds that a school family brings in can be applied to their “Fundraising Commitment” for this year so
please be sure to include your name clearly marked on the envelope when turning in donations.
March is Reading Month
Our theme this year is
“All Aboard the Reading Train.”
As the month draws to a close, we are planning a
special lunch for the elementary students on
Wednesday, March 28.
The elementary students will be having a “Box Car”
lunch, courtesy of the Blue Heron.
This will include a ham & cheese sandwich or
peanut butter and jelly sandwich, chips, applesauce
and a cookie.
There is no charge to the elementary students for
this lunch.
